International Fellowships Program - China

Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Chinese pages of this site for information on the competition.This year is the final competition year; the program will end after this cycle.
This year, only Master's Degree study will be supported; no PhD Degree work will be funded.
Application Requirements
In China, the International Fellowships Program is open to anyone who fulfills all the following requirements:- A Chinese citizen
- Currently resident in mainland China
- Has a Bachelor¡¯s degree from an accredited Chinese university
- Has at least three years of work experience as of the application deadline date
- Whose Residence permit (hukou), current employer, and current residence are all in areas other than the following major cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macao
- Not currently enrolled in any Master¡¯s or Doctoral degree program
- Not already the recipient of any higher degree from an institution outside of China
- Not already the recipient of a doctoral degree from any institution
- No Ford Foundation or IIE staff are allowed to apply
- No one whose spouse is currently studying overseas as an IFP Fellow may apply until their spouse returns to China
- Applicants not selected in each of two previous cycles of the IFP program are not eligible to reapply
- Applicants who already have a Master¡¯s degree (in addition to other requirements) must also have at least one full year of full-time post graduate work experience between receipt of the Master¡¯s degree and the date of their pre-application, amounting in all to at least four years of work experience
- Applicants who applied for the first time in 2009 may apply again this year.
- Be able within 3-6 months of selection to meet or exceed the entrance language requirements of their chosen school.
- Have substantial experience in community service or development-related activities.
- Have a "track record" of work experience related to their proposed field of study.
- Propose to pursue a post-baccalaureate degree that will directly enhance their leadership capacity in a practical, policy, academic, or artistic discipline or field corresponding to one or more of the Foundation's areas of endeavor.
- Present a plan specifying how they will apply their studies to social problems or issues in their own countries.
- Commit themselves to working on these issues following the fellowship period. IFP selects Fellows on the strength of their clearly-stated intention to serve their communities and countries of origin, and expects that they will honor this obligation.
